The Philippine Tarsier is an endangered specie that can be found in the islands of Samar, Bohol and Leyte. In Bohol there is a Tarsier Sanctuarly at Corella. It is an inland town located just 10km north of Tagbilaran City. Tarsiers here are living freely on it's natural habitat where they are observed and protected.
Tarsier is known as the smallest primate of the planet measuring 4 to 5 inches long and weigh 5 ounces. You can easily distinguish tarsier by its large mesmerizing eyes and like an owl it can rotate its head 180 degrees. To the locals in Bohol, tarsiers are called in various names such as "magatilo-iok", "malmag", "magau", "maomag", "mago" and "mamag". The Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Santuary is set-up by the Philippine Tarsier Foundation in a 167 hectare area covering the areas of Corella, Sikatuna and Loboc. These towns have numerous sighting sites for those you are interested to see this tiny and amazing primates. There is what we call as the "Tarsier Trail", where it is developed by the foundation having a 15km being established as the vantage point along the way.
